Do you know the story behind Fathers Day?
Father’s Day is celebrating its 110th anniversary and it all began when a young woman wanted to honor her dad.
In May of 1909, Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Wash., sat in church listening to a Mother’s Day sermon. She decided she wanted to designate a day for her dad , William Jackson Smart. Dodd’s mother had died in childbirth, and Dodd’s father, a Civil War veteran, had taken the responsibility of singlehandedly raising the newborn and his other five children.
Inspired, Dodd drew up a petition for the first Father’s Day, which she said should be celebrated on her father’s birthday in early June; however, Dodd convinced several local church communities to participate, but they pushed the date to late June, giving them more time to prepare.
After that, She continued her mission, determined to elevate Father’s Day to the status of a national holiday. In 1966, the president Lyndon Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers, but it wasn’t until 1972 that President Richard Nixon signed the public law that made it a permanent holiday. Since then, Father’s Day has become a time to recognize the many different father figures in our lives.
Today, the celebration has become an important event with gift ideas to tell your dad how much do you love him.
How do I celebrate the Fathers Day in my home?
Today is Fathers Day, so I prepared a strawberry cake for celebrate it. I am a person who is hard to tell someone that I love you and hard to communicate with parents. But since I meet my boyfriend who teach me ho to do communication, which now I do know how to communicate with them. Therefore, I start to talk with my parents that what did I like, what didn’t like and what I truly feeling.
I always know my dad do a lot of things for our family. Such like in my childhood, I always didn’t see him in those time. Because he went out for work before I woke up and he came back so late after I sleep, which I didn’t know why he was keep busy on those days until I become a freshmen in college that we got a great talk day. He told me that he worked so hard on those days is because he want to bring us to the new and bigger house. Therefore, he need to earn lots of money to buy it and that’s why he had been kept busy on those days.
I suddenly understand why he look so old and tired on those days, it’s all because of us (our family), not just for him. However, in 2019, this Fathers Day is a little bit different that I told him ” I love you and thank you for everything you done for this family. ”
Oh, I still think it’s so hard to tell, especially in person! Anyway, I hope you guys tell your father how much you love him and thanks him to do anything for your family without any hesitate.
